Meet the maker

Hi, I'm Sydney, the maker behind every piece at The Sewing Squid.

I'm 27 years old, and I started my sewing journey in February 2025 when I was looking for a new hobby. What began as a creative outlet quickly became a passion. Thanks to my friends and families encouragement I've now decided to share my creations with others!

Each garment and accessory you find here is handcrafted by me, one at a time, using a mix of vintage and new fabrics that tell their own stories. I work with upcycled textiles including vintage quilts and repurposed materials to create pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind.

Why I Create

I believe fashion should be personal, sustainable, and full of character. Every piece I make celebrates the history woven into the fabrics I source, giving new life to textiles that might otherwise be forgotten. When you wear or use something from The Sewing Squid, you're not just using any product—you're giving new life and meaning to textile history.

My Process

I carefully select each fabric for its unique texture, pattern, and story. Some pieces feature vintage quilts with decades of craftsmanship stitched into them. Others combine new and repurposed materials to create something entirely fresh. Because I work with what's available and what speaks to me, no two pieces are ever exactly alike.

This means when you find something you love, it's yours alone. Once it's gone, it's gone.

What to Expect

Since every piece is handmade from vintage or repurposed textiles, you may notice small imperfections, variations in fabric, or signs of the material's previous life. These aren't flaws—they're part of what makes each piece special and authentic.

All sales are final, so I encourage you to review all photos and descriptions carefully before purchasing. If you have questions about a specific piece, I'm always happy to provide more details or additional photos.
